Why Is It The Right Move For This £45m Arsenal Midfielder To Join Atletico As A Free Agent Next Summer

Mesut Ozil

Ozil To Atletico Madrid? That’s Probably A Good Move And Here’s Why

The transfer saga concerning Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez only seem to intensify as days go by. Arsene Wenger is already up to his neck in responsibilities and pressure, especially after his contract got extended. He has been trying to tie down both players to new contracts but there appears to be a sense of disinterest from the wantaway duo. While Alexis Sanchez continues to be linked with Manchester City, Mesut Ozil has had a number of suitors which includes Manchester United and even Liverpool. Now, the latest club to be added to that list is Atletico Madrid.

The £45m rated German could be looking at a possible return to the La Liga if he considers joining Diego Simeone’s side. It has been debated before but the fact remains that Arsenal are not the ideal team for Ozil. Yes, his creativity and vision are unparalleled at the club but he is not thriving in his position like he does for Germany.

The World Cup winner boasts of a lot of talent. After all, he was a key player of the merciless German squad that lifted the prestigious trophy last time out but he is just not at his best for the Gunners. So far, he has contributed 33 goals across all competitions for Arsenal and that is not a measly number. However, he is capable of so much more and could hope to find a better environment at Atletico.

Ozil’s current deal will expire at the end of the season, leaving him as a free agent and that will allow him to negotiate with foreign clubs in January. He played for Real Madrid in the La Liga prior to joining Arsenal, and the player does have the necessary experience to do well.

Furthermore, if he moves, he will have a better chance of establishing himself in the Atletico Madrid team next year. The Spanish club are already facing the prospect of losing several key players like Antoine Griezmann, Yannick Carrasco and Saul Niguez. Ozil will be a strong replacement for Niguez since both players are extremely creative and attack-oriented.

Thus, it remains to be seen how things play out between Arsenal and Ozil. Of course, the club will be looking to offload him in January to gain profit from this deal but if the playmaker agrees to join Atletico, then Arsenal will have to risk losing him for free once the summer window comes up. Regardless of where he goes, Ozil will prove to be an asset and that is likely to be a major loss for the Gunners.
