Everton pushing hard to complete £17m deal would be an absolute coup by Ancelotti

Why Jeremie Boga would be a fantastic signing for Everton

According to a report from the Express, Sassuolo star Jeremie Boga has attracted interest from Everton, Inter Milan, Brighton and Barcelona with his performances this season.

The Ivory Coast international, 23, joined Sassuolo from Chelsea in 2018 after failing to really break into the Blues starting XI. The midfielder struggled initially but has settled now at Sassuolo. In fact, he has gone on to become an important player for the Serie A side.

Jeremie Boga has bagged 4 goals in 18 appearances, helping Sassuolo to 14th place so far this season. The report adds Napoli have already submitted a £17million bid but no agreement has been struck between the two clubs.

Everton, meanwhile, are in need of an injection of quality, with Carlo Ancelotti’s men suffering a humiliating defeat to Liverpool in their most recent outing in the FA Cup third round. The Toffees have not enjoyed a great start to the campaign despite investing heavily in the summer.

However, the onus is now on Ancelotti and he must improve his team’s quality in certain areas this month. A lack of prolific goalscorer has been Everton’s biggest problem since Romelu Lukaku’s departure in 2017.

The Toffees’ forward options are in dire need of revamping, particularly with Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse out of the first-team picture and Theo Walcott set to turn 31 in March.

While Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have both showed signs of promise recently, Ancelotti’s other attacking options aren’t just up to the mark. Hence, Everton must go for Jeremie Boga to improve their attack.

Operating primarily as a left-winger, Boga is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder and also as a second striker who can play off the shoulder. The Ivorian is quick, skilful and direct in his approach, which makes him dangerous to defend against.

He has the burst of acceleration which makes him unstoppable at times, which means the 23-year-old would also inject pace into the Everton attack. In the video below, one could get a glimpse of Boga’s pace and threat in and around the opposition box.

Hence, it’s no big wonder that Everton have Boga in their sights as they clearly need someone in the attack to propel them back up the table.

Verdict

The Marseille-born star will improve the Toffees going forward and his ability to create chances would also help Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin up front. The ex-Chelsea starlet’s versatility will also come handy for a tactically astute manager like Ancelotti.

Boga has shown his quality in Sassuolo colours this campaign and that should prompt Everton into tabling a bid for him this month.
