Liverpool reigniting their interest in world-class World Cup winner would turn them into European force – opinion

Liverpool opinion: Klopp should reignite interest in Nabil Fekir

Liverpool were heavily linked a move for Olympique Lyon star Nabil Fekir and it was no surprise why (Mirror). While they had their impeccable front line in Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the Reds missed that creative influence in the midfield.

Neither James Milner nor Jordan Henderson could add that, with Adam Lallana struggling with injuries. It did affect Liverpool in the Champions League final and Jurgen Klopp looked all set to change that just before the season started.

Fabinho first walked in and Fekir was supposed to be the next addition but the move collapsed, with Liverpool concerned about Fekir’s past (Guardian). The Frenchman has had his issues with injuries over the last few years.

That changed things for Liverpool and they stepped out of the transfer, with the 26-year-old staying at Olympique Lyon.

However, now the Mirror has reported that Nabil Fekir could be open to a move in the summer once again and this time, Liverpool have to get it done. While Jurgen Klopp has created an incredible side, they lack creativity at times.

Most of their chances have either been created off the full-backs or from Roberto Firminio, and that has really affected some of the games. Furthermore, with teams playing with a low-block, Liverpool have struggled to break down the defence, finding the lack of space unnerving.

That’s exactly where someone like Nabil Fekir could help, and contribute with goals when needed. Last season, Fekir finished with 23 goals and 8 assists to his name, with 18 in the Ligue 1.

Both Salah and Roberto Firmino scored more than Fekir in all competitions though, with 16 and 17 assists to their names respectively. This season, things have changed and while Liverpool are chasing Manchester City for the Premier League title, it doesn’t mean they don’t need reinforcements.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana have done what they can off the bench. But they don’t even come close to what Nabil Fekir can offer the club. It’s a move that will boost Liverpool and more importantly, add that final piece of the puzzle to truly make them the best.
