Liverpool signing this £18m-rated Turkish ace would safeguard their goal in the long run

Why Liverpool signing Ugurcan Cakir would be good for the future

A report from The Sun suggests that Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir is on the radar of Liverpool, who have identified the shot-stopper as a long-term replacement.

Cakir currently plies his trade with Trabzonspor and has been impressive for the side, which is at 3rd position in Super Lig table this season.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks of Trabzonspor and was promoted to the senior side last November.

Since then, he has cemented his place as the first-choice keeper in Unal Karaman’s squad. This season, he has started all games for the Turkish outfit.

Reports also claim that the player’s agent has confirmed that four English clubs are monitoring Cakir, along with Liverpool. Cakir made his international debut in May and recently featured against Andorra in the Euro qualifications.

Cakir is valued at around £18m by the club and the player’s agent has indicated that he could move for different challenges in the summer (h/t The Sun).

The goalkeeper has the potential to succeed at a higher level. Therefore, it would be good for Liverpool to sign the youngster.

The Reds bought Adrian on a free transfer as a replacement for Simon Mignolet. An injury to first-choice Alisson paved the way for Adrian’s game time. The Spaniard was successful whenever deployed by the manager.

Since Alisson’s return from injury, Adrian has been on the bench and considering his age, he may not be at Anfield for a long time. Other goalkeepers in the squad have not featured much and at the moment, Ugurcan Cakir is in fine form.

According to whoscored, Cakir has been more influential for Trabzonspor than Adrian has been for Liverpool. The Turk has one rare assist to his name too. Defensively, both players have made an average of 0.1 tackles per game but Cakir has made 1.3 clearances compared to Adrian’s 1 per game.

With an overall rating of 6.88, the youngster has been better than Adrian, who has a rating of 6.41.

He has been playing on a regular basis and therefore, being deputy to Alisson would be the best choice for him. Playing second fiddle would also help him learn and develop his game.

Liverpool have not been at their commanding best while defending this season. To that end, Cakir can provide assistance by taking Alisson’s place in other competitions, thus helping Klopp retain the Brazilian’s fitness for crucial games.

A taste of English football can help him progress in his career. In Cakir, Liverpool would have an excellent shot-stopper, who can be a solid back-up for Alisson.

Therefore, it would be a good investment for the future if Liverpool manage to lure the youngster to Anfield.
