Why Man United must offload their flop star and sign this upcoming left-sided wizard as replacement

Why offloading Darmian and buying Sessegnon will be a good business by United

Matteo Darmian is thought to be on his way out of Manchester United this summer transfer amidst interest from Italy. Juventus are believed to be looking to land the Italian full-back as he is surplus to requirements at the Old Trafford.

Darmian has struggled for game time under Jose Mourinho and it’s clear that the former Torino man is not a part of the Portuguese gaffer’s plans. Darmian has fallen down the pecking order at United, with Ashley Young being preferred over him.

Here’s why Manchester United will do well by selling Darmian and adding a left-back,  Ryan Sessegnon, in the summer.

Manchester United don’t need Darmian anymore

Darmian has been the back-up full-back who has often slotted in when the team was without first-choice players in those positions. With the arrival of Diogo Dalot, a right-back who is capable of playing left back, it has become clear that Darmian won’t be needed anymore.

Manchester United will be having 2 established right-backs in Valencia and Dalot, and they can now get rid of the back-up right-back. Darmian is right footed and he is a natural fit on the right-hand side of the pitch.

They need a left-back

Even if Manchester United make Shaw stay back, they don’t have a natural left-back at the club to help Shaw. Although Ashley Young has done a good job in his make-shift left-back position so far, Mourinho must address the potential Achilles heel.

Ryan Sessegnon has been one of the top English prospects in recent years and Manchester United should do everything to sign the player. Adding a left-back will help the Red Devils in adding depth to a position of concern.

Ryan Sessegnon

Ryan Sessegnon will be happy to wait for his chance

Although Sessegnon has immense potential, he is still a teenager and has a lot to learn. While Darmian might grow frustrated due to the lack of chances, Sessegnon will be happy to be an understudy and wait for his opportunity.

At a big club like Manchester United, you need willing players as back-up, who are ready to help the team when there is a problem.

Moreover, Ryan will bring a sense of competition amongst the existing players in the left-back position, which would benefit the team on the whole.
