Man Utd signing this 115-game PL proven star in January would be a smart way to bolster their forces

Why Man United should take a punt on signing Emre Can in January

According to Express, Manchester United have been linked with a move for Juventus midfielder Emre Can. The versatile German midfielder represented Liverpool in 115 appearances during his four-year tenure at Anfield.

Can is having a rough season at the Old Lady, with manager Maurizio Sarri leaving him out of the Champions League squad. He is clearly surplus to requirements at Juventus. With Manchester United enduring a difficult season, a move does make sense.

It is clear that boss Ole Gunnar Solskajaer has failed to find replacements for Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera. To that end, Can is a proven Premier League player and has the ability to solve many of United’s problems.

With Can in the defensive midfield role alongside Scott McTominay, Solskajaer would finally be able to unleash Paul Pogba in a more attacking and creative role.

The manager currently plays Jesse Lingard in the No. 10 position but the 26-year-old lacks most of the qualities needed from a creative midfielder. Lingard has failed to produce a single assist or goal in his six league appearances this season.

If an experienced midfielder like Can joins, it will put additional pressure on the likes of Andreas Pereira and Fred to perform in order to get into the starting line-up. Nemanja Matic will be another player who has to showcase his skills to find a place in the starting 11.

Can is a versatile player and has the ability to play as a defensive midfielder, a centre-back and full-back. A player with such qualities is what Manchester United are in need at the moment.

Luke Shaw has been out for weeks due to a hamstring injury while Aaron Wan-Bissaka has missed the Red Devils’ past few league clashes due to an illness.

Eric Bailly

Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are out with injuries, leaving just Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire at centre-back. In a situation like this, Solskajer can utilize the 25-year-old wherever required.

Can has made just 3 league appearances this season as compared to last season’ 29. Considering his lack of game time at Juventus, it would be a win-win situation for both clubs as well as for the player. Thus, Can should agree to sign a deal with United in January.
