Why Manchester United must avoid signing this top-class Dutch winger with 10 goals in 30 games

Published

on

According to the Guardian, Manchester United are readying a summer move for Ajax starlet, Justin Kluivert.

Kluivert, the son of the former Barcelona and Netherlands centre-forward Patrick Kluivert, has been in superb form for Ajax this season, netting 10 goals in 30 games. He has been in contract negotiations with the Dutch club but it is understood that talks have broken down because of his demand to be the highest-paid player at the club.

The Dutchman’s current situation at Ajax has interested United, with Jose Mourinho being a huge admirer of the highly-rated young attacker.

At United right now, Mourinho has the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford as his options in the attack. That instantly eliminates the need for another striker, let alone a world-class one.

As far as the wingers are concerned, the team is blessed with experience, talent and variety. Anthony Martial started off very well but has somewhat faded in the second half of the season. The Frenchman’s game time has been hampered by the arrival of Sanchez from Arsenal, as the Chilean has directly slotted himself on the left-wing.

Alexis Sanchez

Marcus Rashford has also suffered heavily due to the arrival of Sanchez, although the academy striker has been involved in most of the games throughout the season.

Jesse Lingard’s brilliant season has made him a regular starter in the United team and the standout attribute is his ability to play in any position, including the wing.

Mourinho’s preferred formation is 4-2-3-1, in which Lukaku leads the line, with Lingard behind him, Sanchez on the left and Rashford or Mata on the right-wing. Martial, for all the talent and ability he possesses, isn’t effective on the right flank.

All the while, United have had their own issues on the right-wing. That was the big reason why Mourinho was interested in signing Ivan Perisic at the start of the season. United failed to get a deal done for Perisic but snatched Sanchez from Arsenal.

Sanchez has notably improved the Red Devils, giving them another dimension in the final third. The Chilean’s addition meant that United were complete in the attack, with Martial and Mata being rotated following the former Arsenal man’s arrival.

This clearly suggests that United do not need a winger this summer. In fact, Mourinho admitted in February that he won’t buy any attacking player at the end of the season after the arrival of Sanchez.

Justin Kluivert is one of the brilliant young attacking talents across Europe. He is destined for bigger things but currently, United should avoid signing him.

Ajax Secure Double Transfer Swoop With Katja Snoeijs and Nadine Noordam Returning From England

Katja Snoeijs, Nadine Noordam

Ajax have completed a significant double recruitment coup, securing both Katja Snoeijs from Everton and Nadine Noordam from Brighton on long term contracts. The pair of Netherlands internationals return to their home country after establishing themselves across English football’s top tier.

Snoeijs departs Merseyside having scored 16 goals in 75 appearances for the Toffees, establishing herself as an established Netherlands regular during her time at Everton. The 29 year old joins on a free transfer following contract expiration. Noordam arrives after 39 appearances for Brighton including a memorable 95th minute winner against Liverpool that sent the Seagulls to the 2026 FA Cup final.

Experienced Talent Returns to Familiar Territory

Noordam’s return represents genuine homecoming after previous success in the Eredivisie where she won the league title alongside three KNVB Cups across spells with Ajax and ADO Den Haag. The 27 year old midfielder brings over 100 Ajax appearances alongside familiarity with club infrastructure and playing culture. Her Brighton spell saw inconsistent deployment often relegated to substitute roles, making this fresh start genuinely appealing.

The pacy box-to-box midfielder never quite established herself at international senior level despite her domestic quality, suggesting potential developmental opportunity through this move.

Ajax Target Champions League Progress

Ajax finished second last season just four points behind PSV champions, positioning themselves as genuine contenders for 2026-27. The dual signings suggest ambitions extending beyond domestic challenge toward European progression. Their Champions League qualifier against Brøndby on August 5th provides immediate competitive testing ground.

This recruitment feels strategically sound rather than desperate. Ajax identify proven performers returning home rather than chasing unknown prospects. That philosophy should deliver sustainable competitive improvement aligned with their European ambitions moving forward.

Experience and Leadership Return to Amsterdam

Ajax Technical Manager Dolf Roks praised Noordam’s return as providing immediate quality boost to their squad. The midfielder arrives as a natural leader capable of inspiring teammates while contributing genuine dynamism through work rate and football intelligence. Her previous Ajax tenure included 105 appearances alongside winning the Eredivisie title once and the Dutch Cup twice.

Established Player Brings Proven Pedigree

Noordam’s homecoming represents Ajax securing an established player at peak years rather than speculative youth investment. Her Brighton spell provided crucial testing ground at the world’s most competitive domestic league, exposing her to intensive physical and tactical demands. That experience should translate seamlessly back into Eredivisie football.

This transfer feels genuinely smart for both parties. Ajax regain a proven leader while Noordam returns home enriched by English football exposure. She brings exactly what Ajax need: immediate quality combined with genuine leadership credentials developed through challenging overseas experience.
