Man United signing this 22-year-old long-range specialist would be simply fantastic

Why Manchester United must go all out to sign Ruben Neves from Wolves

According to the Goal (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have made contact with Wolves for star man Ruben Neves.

Ruben Neves, 22, has enjoyed another impressive campaign with Wolves, netting two goals and bagging an assist in 21 games. He has formed a strong partnership with compatriot Joao Moutinho in the middle of the park, helping the Wanderers to 7th place in the table.

After a dismal start to the 2019-20 campaign, Manchester United appeared to be turning a corner last month, only to lose to Watford and rivals Arsenal over the festive period.

The Red Devils are currently 5th in the Premier League – five points below fourth-placed Chelsea – and Solskjaer needs to bring in a couple of new players to bolster his team’s top-four hopes.

Injuries to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba have not helped United’s cause, leaving Solskjaer with very limited options in the midfield. Fred and Nemanja Matic are the only senior central midfielders fit for now, making Solskjaer’s decision to not replace Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini a poor one now.

That’s why the Red Devils need reinforcements in the midfield and Ruben Neves would be an excellent fit at Old Trafford. Neves operates as a deep-lying playmaker for Wolves, dictating the tempo of the game with his distribution skills and reading of the game.

He has a great touch, can pick a short or long pass to bypass the opposition press, and has great positioning sense. The Portuguese international has the vision to unlock a rigid defence and is not shy of picking out a killer pass in the final third.

The former FC Porto man’s creativity coupled with his knack for scoring important goals makes him one of the most exciting midfielders in the Premier League.

Furthermore, Neves has a great long-range shot and is an expert from dead-ball situations, which should make him a fantastic addition to Solskjaer’s side.

In the video below, one could get a glimpse of Neves’ style of play and the qualities he could bring to United if a move goes through.

Verdict

The Portuguese international is still only 22 and still has a lot to improve to unlock his true potential. Neves has shown that he’s clearly ready to move to a bigger club and Solskjaer would be wise to recruit him this month.
