Forget Shaw – Man United signing this 22-year-old English star would sort out their left-back problems

Why Manchester United should make an attempt to sign Ben Chilwell

According to a report in Leicester Mercury, Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell is among the list of four players Manchester United aim to sign during the course of the next two transfer windows.

Along with Chilwell, playmaker James Maddison is also on the radar of the Red Devils, who have made a poor start to their season and need quality injected in their squad. (h/t Leicester Mercury)

The fullback was a subject of grave interest from United’s city rivals Manchester City in the summer transfer window. However, the player remained at Leicester. (h/t Leicester Mercury)

For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his team, this has been a trepidious start to their campaign, and injuries to certain players haven’t helped their cause. One example is injury to Luke Shaw, who doesn’t seem to remain fit for a long period of games.

For that reason and more, here’s why United should try to sign Chilwell either in January or next summer:

Chilwell will offer consistency and quality

Ben Chilwell is a top quality left-back, who has played as a wide centre-back in a three-man central defence as well.

The England international has developed himself into one of the better fullbacks in the league, which is a testament to his development, having played the backup role to Christian Fuchs at Leicester until 2017.

In terms of attributes, the 22-year-old is a strong runner up and down the field. His crossing is of the highest quality, can defend well in one-vs-one situations and is physically strong.

So it can be said that if Chilwell joins Manchester United, he would sort out their problems at left-back, both in terms of quality and also in terms of being fit and available for most of the games.
