This extremely talented 22-year-old Italian would be a perfect replacement for Valencia and Man United must get him

Manchester United opinion: Red Devils want Davide Calabria – good move?

According to a report in Daily Mail, Premier League giants Manchester United are interested in signing AC Milan right-back Davide Calabria as they look for a suitable replacement for Antonio Valencia.

The latter’s contract is coming to an end this summer, and hasn’t signed an extension yet. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the green signal for the departure of the Ecuadorian.

As per the report in Mirror, United have sent scouts to take a closer look at Calabria. They have been impressed with the full-back’s performances this season.

Hence, it is clear that they are on course to sign a right-back in the summer. (h/t Daily Mail)

Here’s why they should stick to scouting Calabria and sign him once the transfer window reopens:

Calabria’s versatility and prowess would be a great addition

Predominantly a right-back, Davide Calabria can operate on the other side and also as a right winger. He has even played one game as a central midfielder for AC Milan. Hence, there is no doubting his ability to be flexible according to the requirement of the team.

The 22-year-old is good at making forward runs from the full-back position and delivering good crosses into the box. The Italian is not bad when it comes to defending in one-vs-one situations as well.

His pass success rate is close to 83% in the league this season, while he makes tackles and interceptions at a rate of 2.9 and 1.3 per game respectively. (Whoscored.com)

All in all, Calabria is a quality player who is still young and would learn a lot in the coming years.

The Red Devils have struggled on the right-hand side because Ashley Young is now 33 years old and Diogo Dalot is still a teenager and getting accustomed to life in the Premier League.

Davide Calabria would be a shrewd business by Manchester United. At 22, the Italian can be a long-term solution to the right-back position alongside Dalot.
