Why Manchester United Should Sign This £25m Tottenham Star To Solve Their Left Wing Problems

Danny Rose

Why Manchester United Should Consider Signing Danny Rose From Tottenham

Manchester United have been plagued with several problems concerning the left-back position. At present, they continue to shuffle between the likes of Ashley Young, Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian – and while these players have done relatively well, Jose Mourinho needs to address the situation as soon as possible.

The biggest factor behind their troubles is Luke Shaw’s poor form. The player was signed by the club as a solution to their lack of quality options in that area. However, the player’s injuries have worsened the situation. He has been out of the squad for a long time now, while Mourinho had to use of makeshift options. It also goes on to explain their interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose, making a January move sound extremely likely.

Having said that, Rose is not in the best of conditions either. He has been sidelined for the last six months with a knee injury. In fact, his injury paved way for Ben Davies to establish himself in the Spurs team. Getting back to the first-team as a regular may prove to be tough for Rose, especially after Davies’ influence. Furthermore, his explosive summer interview where he questioned Tottenham’s ambition and transfer activity certainly does not help his case.

Having just turned 27, the £25m rated Rose will be aware of the fact that he doesn’t have many years ahead of him, at least not as a player who could contribute heavily to the success of his team. His mentality has also been questioned by a lot of their fans after the interview, and there are signs which suggest that he may not be welcomed at the club. Thus, with United registering an interest, Rose could hope to leave the club in search of pastures anew.

Meanwhile, United fans may not be willing to give up on Shaw already. His performances were quite impressive ahead of his horrible injury against PSV Eindhoven. If he could rediscover that form and play that way consistently, United would have a solid left-back for the long-term. Whether Mourinho will take such a huge risk is unknown though, especially after publicly criticising Shaw on numerous occasions.

The situation is indeed dicey, and perhaps focusing on the short-term would benefit United better. If their thought-process takes that turn, then Rose would be a viable option to star for them at left-back. He attacks and also defends well, just like Shaw. He is also positionally sound, can cross the ball well and his pace going forward would be a huge asset.

Besides, the mere thought of a player like Rose playing behind the likes of Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial does sound enticing. It would also transform their left wing into a lethal force capable of ripping even the strongest of teams apart. Hence, a move for Danny Rose could most certainly prove to be an advantage for Manchester United in the near future.
