Man United signing this struggling 28-year-old star would be a very poor transfer decision by Solskjaer – agreed?

Manchester United opinion: Solskjaer shouldn’t go for Kieran Trippier

Manchester United need to be very smart this summer. They cannot make the same mistakes that Jose Mourinho made over the course of his Manchester United career. The Portuguese manager tried to copy Pep Guardiola’s style by adding players for a lot of money.

While that method worked quite well for Manchester City, it did not have the same effect for their cross-town rivals. Instead, it blew up magnificently in Mourinho’s face and it saw him get sacked half-way through his third year at the club.

That more than anything is what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to change and make sure he doesn’t repeat.

But by adding someone like Kieran Trippier, that is exactly what the club would be doing. The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester United have shortlisted the English international as their second choice behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

However, the report further adds that the Red Devils are scared that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy might force them to overpay for the struggling right-back.

Right-back is a position that a move Manchester United have to strengthen but at the same time, they should not make a move for Trippier.

The 28-year-old has endured a torrid season and has proven to be a defensively liability, also struggling offensively. Attack was his biggest asset, with Trippier showcasing just what he could do during the 2018 World Cup.

It was the former Burnley star at his very best, bombing forward game after game, delivering more than his share of delicious crosses.

But that changed once the regular season resumed and it often saw Kyle Walker-Peters play instead, with Pochettino losing faith in the Englishman. It’s exactly why Manchester United cannot take the risk and make a move for Kieran Trippier.

The Red Devils do need a right-back, with Antonio Valencia on his way out and Ashley Young no longer a reliable defender. But it has to be the right man.

More than anything, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the perfect option, with the Crystal Palace star at the perfect stage in his career to make a jump ahead. At the age of 21, he still has a lot of time on his side to improve and become even better. That says a lot about Bissaka’s potential.

Conclusion

A move for Kieran Trippier is arguably the worst thing that Manchester United can do right now and the club needs to be looking at the future.

They need a lot of players to update an ageing squad and adding someone well past the age of 25 will not help their cause.
