Newcastle are heading down the right path by offering a new contract to this 30-year-old first-team ace – Agreed?

Why Martin Dubravka signing a new deal with Newcastle is great for the club

Martin Dubravka didn’t have the best showing at Anfield as one of his errors led to a goal.

Sadio Mane capitalised on a mistake by the Slovakian as the Senegalese forward gave Liverpool the lead.

Newcastle looked decent before Roberto Firmino came on to replace Divock Origi, and the Newcastle United keeper was barely threatened in the first 30 minutes.

The former Sparta Prague keeper is one of the most consistent players in the Premier League, and it should come as great news that there are talks over a new deal with the club.

Dubravka spoke about the loss at Anfield and was hopeful of finalised the new deal soon (h/t Daily Mail):

“We’re in talks. I’m close. We are in contact and hopefully we can sort it out as soon as possible.”

The Slovakian added that he was happy at the club and they had taken good care of him.

Great move from the Magpies

Dubravka only arrived a couple of years ago but became the No.1 at St James’ Park.

The Slovakian isn’t the best when it comes to his passing or distribution, but he is a quality shot-stopper.

The 30-year-old is decent when coming out to collect crosses and deal with corners, but he can improve this aspect of the game.

Newcastle handing him a new deal ensures there are no murmurs regarding his future, and the keeper can concentrate on his football.

Further, it wouldn’t be easy to find a quality replacement for Dubravka on the cheap either.

The Magpies have had problems in a few positions in recent years, but sealing the future of the goalkeeping spot is a decent move.

They have a couple of quality centre-backs, a rising star in the midfield in Sean Longstaff and Joelinton looks a handful.

Steve Bruce has a decent side at his disposal and should look to build the side further with Dubravka starring in between the sticks.
