Why Mourinho will regret not hijacking PSG’s deal for top-class 27-year-old South American

Mourinho will certainly regret losing out on Alex Sandro

Jose Mourinho is the kind of man who loves to prove his critics wrong. And that’s exactly what the manager will be planning to do with Manchester United next season. Mourinho has already begun his preparations by signing Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred and FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot.

But the Red Devils missed out on signing Juventus full-back Alex Sandro. Manchester United were linked with the Brazilian defender for a while but PSG have now hijacked the deal and will be taking him to the Parc Des Princes. According to reports, the Brazilian has agreed to join the Parisiens.

Juventus have already sold Bonucci to AC Milan and lost Dani Alves to PSG last summer as well. But they had a reason to celebrate, due to the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid. The club will be aiming to recoup some of that money by offloading the 27-year-old Sandro.

Alex Sandro

Sandro joined Juventus from FC Porto in 2015, after impressing at the Portuguese club for 4 years. He has since gone on to make a total of 75 appearances for the Serie A champions, scoring 9 goals in that time. The Brazilian has been a regular in Massimiliano Allegri’s side and has often played crucial roles in their Champions League adventures. The former Porto defender faced a dip in form at the start of last season but eventually picked up as the season progressed.

He made a total of 23 appearances in the Serie A last season, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists. He is generally utilised as a left-back or as a left wing-back but Sandro is also capable of playing in a left-wing role.

He is a versatile player who will provide any manager with a number of options up front. The Brazilian is an excellent passer of the ball, averaging a pass success rate of 86.4% in the Serie A last season. He also averaged a pass success rate of 83.3% in 10 Champions League appearances last time out.

Manchester United have already sold full-back turned midfielder Daley Blind to former club Ajax and are short of a man in their defensive ranks. The signing of Alex Sandro would surely solve that dilemma but with the Brazilian now set on joining PSG, Mourinho is going to have to fish elsewhere.

Sandro would considerably strengthen the Red Devils squad with his tireless work rate and excellent offensive ability. Manchester United will surely regret losing out on his signature.
