Newcastle United opinion – Should the Magpies sign Nicolo Zaniolo?

According to a report in Daily Star, Premier League side Newcastle United are keeping tabs on AS Roma wonderkid Nicolo Zaniolo as they commence the plannings for next season.

The 19-year-old has caught the eye of many in his breakout season in Italy. His two goals against Porto in the Champions League made the world know about his abilities.

The Italian U21 international moved to Rome as a part of a swap deal with Inter Milan, with Radja Nainggolan going the other way.

Zaniolo has had an impressive campaign and is being linked with a host of other clubs in Europe. And as per the report (h/t Chronicle), Newcastle have sent scouts to watch the teenager in close stead.

After signing Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United for a club record fee of £21m, Newcastle have looked a more assured unit when it comes to building attacks and creating loads of chances in front of goal.

The Paraguayan has arrived and combined well with Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez, forming a very good front three.

As a result of this trio doing wonders, the Magpies have looked like a side who are not solely focused on defending, but also hinge on outscoring opponents when required.

Hence, there is more balance to the team and they are visibly doing better when compared to the first half of this season.

Going into the next campaign, the prospects are bright for this team. Furthermore, if they manage to sign someone of Nicolo Zaniolo’s quality, it would sharpen their attack a touch more.

The 19-year-old is an attacking midfielder by trade, but he is capable of playing as a central midfielder or on the right wing. Hence, he would add an extra dimension to the Newcastle squad that could really make them a proper top-10 team in the Premier League.
