Newcastle signing this up and coming 23-year-old Ligue 1 starlet would secure their season under Bruce

Why Newcastle United should sign AS Monaco’s Rony Lopes

According to a report in the Chronicle Live, Newcastle are still looking for new signings and have been linked with a move for AS Monaco’s Rony Lopes.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder moved from Manchester City as a youngster and got a much-needed opportunity at the Ligue 1 club that is known for developing youngsters.

He’s already a Portuguese international, and is someone with massive potential. His small size allows him to be very good in tight spaces.

He did not enjoy a very good season last year but that was the case for the entire Monaco side, who faced a very turbulent season. But he was absolutely fantastic the season before.

In the 2017/18 season, the Portuguese scored 17 goals and registered 12 assists to lead Monaco’s charge to 2nd place in Ligue 1. Monaco have never had any qualms about selling players as that is the model by which they are run, and he’s one who’s next in line to move on.

Newcastle have lost some of their creativity with the departure of Ayoze Perez, who moved to Leicester earlier in the summer and Lopes would be a fantastic replacement to help take up some of the creative burden along with new signing Joelinton, who is also a very creative centre-forward.

The Magpies are heading into a new era with new management in Steve Bruce. They finished the last two seasons placed 10th and 13th respectively, and a lot of credit for that goes to former manager Rafael Benitez, who took the team from the Championship to the Premier League.

The Magpies have also lost Salomon Rondon, who was on loan last season and will have to find a new style of football if they are to survive in the league.

They’ve held onto most of their defenders and midfield, which was extremely organized and would usually hit the opposition on the counter under Benitez.

Conclusion

Steve Bruce doesn’t have the CV of Rafa Benitez and will have his doubters at St. James’ Park due to his affiliation with arch-rivals Sunderland in the past.

He will have to get off to a good start or be forced to face the wrath of the supporters who are already quite frustrated with the ownership at the club. Lopez would be a very smart purchase and would keep Newcastle afloat for another season.
