Why Norwich City have done a brilliant by signing Teemu Pukki
Norwich City have confirmed the signing of Teemu Pukki from Danish club Brondy. The 28-year-old will join the Canaries on a three-year deal and his experience will prove to be vital for the club next season.
Daniel Farke’s men finished 14th in the Championship last term and going forward, the club will be under pressure to deliver better results. Norwich have a few promising players in their squad but they also lack quality in certain departments. To that end, can Pukki prove to be a game-changer for them?
Pukki counts the likes of Schalke, Sevilla and Celtic amongst his former employers. The Finnish star has also appeared 64 times for his country, scoring 12 goals in the process. A striker by trade, Pukki is quite experienced and versatile.
He can play in various positions up front but regardless of where he is deployed, the attacker always seems to find the back of the net. A technically gifted player with abundant speed, Pukki looks like a great choice for Norwich.
Over the course of the previous campaign, Norwich struggled greatly in front of goal. Their lack of goals was one of the major reasons behind their poor season and Farke must boost his options up front if he wants his side to fare better next season.
Farke already had the likes of Nelson Oliveira and Dennis Srbeny as his striking options but a player of Pukki’s calibre will be a valuable addition for Norwich. The player is quite generous when it comes to creating opportunities for his teammates as well, and his creativity will come in handy for the Canaries.
Following deals for Emi Buendia and Moritz Leitner, Pukki becomes the third permanent signing for Norwich this summer. So far, the club seem to have made significant additions to their squad and things are looking good for them ahead of the new campaign.
Norwich must fight to secure a playoff spot next season and with the new additions, Farke and his men are on the right path. With a player such as Pukki leading the line, the club will have little to worry about scoring goals.
After all, the 28-year-old scored 17 goals in 36 league games last season as Brondby finished runners-up in the Danish Super League.
Following a poor 2017/18 season, Norwich were in dire need of someone such as Pukki. Provided the Finnish striker maintains his form and adapts to the Championship, he could turn out to be a game-changing signing for the Canaries.
