Why Nottingham Forest must go all out to complete a deal for this out of favour Newcastle ace

Should Nottingham Forest sign Jack Colback on a permanent deal

Nottingham Forest finished 17th in the Championship last season, ending a miserable campaign for the club. Forest boss Aitor Karanka was brought in January to salvage the club’s season after a horrendous run of form under old manager Mark Warburton. The former Middlesbrough boss will now be aiming to take the club to new heights next season.

The Spanish coach has already completed a few deals for the club, bolstering the squad with new players before the start of the campaign. The club have completed a permanent deal for Watford goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon after the former Sunderland shot-stopper enjoyed an impressive loan spell last season.

Karanka also brought in Queens Park Rangers left-back Jack Robinson on a two-year contract. Robinson becomes Nottingham Forest’s sixth signing this summer as the club bid to return to top form.

Aitor Karanka is not yet done with this shopping in the market and is apparently interested in signing Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback on a permanent deal.

Jack Colback

The club are reportedly negotiating terms for the player after he enjoyed a successful loan stint with Forest last season. Colback was signed by Karanka in January and spent just the second half of the season with the club before returning to Tyneside.

He made a total of 16 appearances for the Reds, scoring just one goal during that time in a 3-2 defeat against Bolton Wanderers on the final day. Colback has tons of experience when it comes to playing in England.

The midfielder came through the youth ranks of Sunderland before being promoted to the senior squad. He is an excellent central midfielder with fantastic passing and distribution ability.

Colback averaged a pass success rate of 89.6% in the Championship this season. He is also capable of playing a defensive role, which will help provide cover for the defenders.

Rafael Benitez is eager to offload Jack Colback

At the age of 28, Colback still has a lot to offer. Rafael Benitez is reportedly looking to offload to the player as soon as possible after he had told the former Ipswich man that he was not a part of the manager’s plans. But Forest boss Aitor Karanka is worried about the wage demands, which could be a possible issue.

Nevertheless, Karanka should certainly go for the experienced midfielder if he wants to take Nottingham back to the top next season. Colback should also favour a move after the 28-year-old was made to train with the Under-23 squad, as was the case in the first half of the season last year.
