Celtic signing this £4m upcoming star would be a terrific long-term investment

Why Patryk Klimala would be a smart long-term investment for Celtic

According to a report from Scottish Sun, Celtic are interested in signing Jagiellonia Bialystok star Patryk Klimala this month.

Patryk Klimala, 21, has scored 7 goals in 17 appearances in the Polish league this campaign. He is also linked with Celtic’s Europa League last 32 opponents FC Copenhagen, the report adds.

The 21-year-old still has 18 months to run on his contract at Jagiellonia Bialystok. With FC Copenhagen also interested in Kilmala, Celtic must do everything possible to bag the forward’s signature as quickly as possible.

The Hoops are facing a stiff challenge from arch-rivals Rangers this season. Rangers beat Neil Lennon’s Celtic side 2-1 before the winter break for what was their first win at Parkhead in nine years.

In doing so, the Gers moved two points behind Celtic in the race for the Scottish Premiership title, with Lennon’s side having played one game more.

With Steven Gerrard’s Light Blues looking stronger than last season, Lennon must take a dip in the ongoing transfer window to strengthen his squad. The Northern Irishman should prioritise signing a back-up striker for star man Odsonne Edouard over other positions.

Edouard has been in terrific form throughout the season, netting 17 times in 31 games so far.

But the Frenchman hasn’t had real cover as well as competition, with Vakoun Bayo and Leigh Griffiths really not testing him for a starting berth. That’s why the signing of a new striker should be welcomed at Parkhead, and Patryk Klimala would be a good fit.

Klimala has been in good form in the Polish league this term and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed. But the 21-year-old is still raw and has no prior experience of playing outside Poland, so he’ll represent something of a gamble for Celtic.

Just like Edouard, Celtic must take a gamble on Klimala. The former Poland Under-20 international is a young striker with immense potential and has shown his quality in flashes, which should be enough for the Hoops to sign him.

Verdict

In Ryan Christie, James Forrest, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Odsonne Edouard, Celtic already have enough firepower in their attack and someone like Klimala could be another exciting addition to Lennon’s squad.

Valued at £4million, the young Pole would represent a fantastic long-term investment for the reigning Scottish champions.
