Real Madrid swapping veteran maestro for £150m Man United star would be daylight robbery

Why Real Madrid going for a Pogba-Kroos swap would be daylight robbery

According to a report by Daily Star, Real Madrid could send midfielder Toni Kroos to Manchester United in a bid to land Paul Pogba.

Meanwhile, the Red Devils had earlier confirmed that they are willing to sell their star midfielder, who has been troubled by injuries since the season’s inception.

He has made just two substitute appearances since late September after sustaining an ankle injury and has once again been ruled out, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently confirming that he would need an operation for it.

This means that the ace midfielder will be out of action for another whole month, having made just 7 league appearances this season.

The club seems to have been fed up with the constant transfer saga surrounding the France international and have now slapped a £150million price tag on the unsettled star.

Pogba, who cost United a club-record sum of £90million from Juventus in 2016, on the other hand, has 18 months left on his £15million-a-year deal and has no intention of signing a new one.

The star midfielder, who has a World Cup (2018) under his kitty, rose to prominence at Juventus and received much acclaim for his eye-catching displays in Italy.

However, the 26-year-old has failed to emulate his performances with the Turin giants ever since he arrived at Old Trafford. Despite being one of the best midfielders in recent times, Pogba has been a flop at United, with the majority of his time being spent on the sidelines due to injuries.

Meanwhile, Kroos has been nothing but an inevitable asset to Real Madrid, helping them win 3 successive Champions League trophies and a La Liga title respectively since arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014.

The 30-year German midfield schemer was a subject of interest from the Red Devils when David Moyes was the manager but ended up with the Spanish giants.

This, however, proved to be a good move for the seasoned campaigner, given the numerous trophies he has already won at Real Madrid. Considering Pogba’s huge price tag, Madrid can reduce the burden by including Kroos in the deal.

Though there is no denying Kroos’ talent, such a deal seems to be completely insignificant for Manchester United given the fact that Solskjaer wants to build a side full of hungry and promising young talents.

Kroos does not fit into the category of a young player anymore, although he still might be hungry for a player who has achieved almost everything.

A highly-talented player like Kroos could be a stop-gap solution for United’s current woes, but for a player who is already in his thirties, he will never be a good future investment.

Verdict

With Pogba being more of a burden than a boon at the moment, it would be better for Manchester United to part ways with their midfielder. However, it would definitely be a daylight robbery if Real Madrid swap Pogba for veteran Kroos, who clearly is not the player he once used to be.
