Forget Cenk Tosun – Everton signing this 17-time capped Spanish hitman would reinvigorate their attack

Why Rodrigo Moreno would be a smart signing for Everton

Back in June, a report from the Sun had claimed Everton were interested in signing Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno. However, a deal didn’t go through during the summer transfer window.

Rodrigo Moreno, 28, joined Valencia in 2014 from Benfica, initially on a loan deal and has gone on to win 17 caps for Spain, scoring four times.

He had struggled a little for form last season – netting 17 goals in all competitions 45 matches but just eight in 33 La Liga appearances. But the 28-year-old did help Valencia win the Spanish Cup last season by scoring against Barcelona.

The Spaniard has not set the world alight so far this season, although he scored the winner against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge in Valencia’s Champions League group stage opener.

At 28, Rodrigo is operating at the peak of his powers and despite the striker struggling on his last spell in England with Bolton Wanderers, Everton must take a gamble on him.

Everton have endured an awful time of late, losing four consecutive games in the Premier League. The Toffees have struggled to score goals so far this season that has left them marooned in the bottom three going into the international break.

Despite the signing of Moise Kean from Juventus and the arrival of Alex Iwobi in the summer, Marco Silva’s side have looked toothless going forward. They have scored just six goals in eight league matches and their weekend defeat to Burnley has left them 18th in the table.

It seems clear Everton could benefit from having more firepower upfront after their recent struggles, and Rodrigo would be an ideal fit at Goodison Park.

Rodrigo is one of the best strikers in La Liga and has done really well for Valencia over the last couple of years.

A sharp and agile centre-forward blessed with plenty of pace, power and eye for goal, the 28-year-old can be devastating on his day. He can play as a secondary striker too but is at his lethal best when leading the line all by his own.

The Spanish international has already gained experience playing at the highest level in his CV, having proven his ability in front of goal in Portugal and Spain.

His versatility and experience would also be a great asset to Silva’s men as he’s constantly used in different areas of the pitch to great effect without a real reduction in productivity.

Verdict

Hence, Everton shouldn’t think twice about making a move for Rodrigo and Silva would benefit a lot from this signing.
