Why Said Benrahma could be a smart signing for Aston Villa
According to Express, Aston Villa were keen on signing Brentford winger Said Benrahma during the summer transfer window. However, a deal didn’t go through.
Said Benrahma joined Brentford from OGC Nice in the summer of 2018 and hit the ground running in the Championship. He scored 11 goals and provided 19 assists in 45 outings last season.
This season, it has been a bit different for the Algerian, who has two goals and as many assists in 12 Championship appearances. He scored only his second goal for Brentford on Monday night as the Bees earned the bragging rights in the Championship’s west London derby with a 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers.
With Benrahma slowly getting back his mojo, Aston Villa should consider signing him during the winter transfer window.

Aston Villa’s main source of creativity is skipper Jack Grealish, who has bagged two goals and three assists in 10 league games this season. He also has two goals and an assist in the Carabao Cup. The 24-year-old is indispensable to Dean Smith.
However, Grealish suffered a calf injury in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City last week and there’s no timeframe of his return. The skipper’s absence could hurt Smith’s side royally.
To put things straight, Villa need a player who can share the creative burden of Grealish and come up with goals as well. The likes of Mahmoud Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi haven’t lived up to their hype at the club, while Jota has faded after a bright start to his Villa career. Thus, signing Said Benrahma would be a sensible move from Villa.

Benrahma was one of Championship’s exciting players last season. His tally of 11 goals and 19 assists last season certainly prove that he can contribute to his team’s attack.

Verdict
Benrahma has the qualities to cut it in the Premier League, although he has had a slow start to the Championship season. Thus, Villa must do everything to their powers to sign the Algerian speedster in January.
