With this season almost over, Arsenal should now think of making a deeper impact next season and once again challenge for titles. But for that they would need some reinforcements in their squad, especially in the holding midfielder’s area and the central midfield for partnering Cazorla. But even after a year Arsenal have not found a suitable replacement for Van Persie with Gervinho failing on his earlier promises and Giroud having a mixed season and wasting a lot of crucial opportunities for his club at crunch time. Thus what the Gunners would be requiring in the summer the most is a target man up front who can blend well with the team and pour in goals. Therefore Leandro Damiao fits the bill perfectly and should be on Wenger’s list.
The Internacional striker has been a long time target for Arsenal’s noisy neighbours, Tottenham Hotspurs and a summer move to White Hart Lane seems most likely for the striker. But the agility and finishing capability of the player should make Wenger take a deep look at the striker, more so because Giroud’s finishing has been questionable throughout the season. With Cazorla, Walcott, Wilshere and Podolski all supplying balls into the boxes frequently, a meticulous finisher is the call of the hour for Arsenal. The 23 year old who has scored 82 goals in 143 appearances for his club and three in 16 games for Brazil perfectly fits the bill.
Even for Damiao Arsenal should be a more lucrative prospect than Spurs mainly because of the better quality midfield of Spurs, who are not as much dependent on their strikers as they are on Bale. Then it is an established fact that if there is any manager in England or perhaps in the world at the moment who is most capable of nurturing young talents it is Wenger. So a stint with the master tactician would also shape his career a lot before the World Cup in 2014 in Brazil.
In the end we can say that even if Arsenal goes on to capture Jovetic for their striker’s position, they should still have Damiao on their radar and make a move for him before their bitter rivals successfully grab him.
