6 goals, 3 assists – Aston Villa’s attacking woes would vanish if they sign this 23-year-old hotshot

Why signing Rashica would offer Aston Villa more options in attack

According to Eurosport (h/t Birmingham Mail), Aston Villa are targeting Werder Bremen winger Milot Rashica ahead of January transfer window.

Kosovan Rashica has had a superb campaign so far despite his side’s poor show this season in the Bundesliga.

Werder Bremen are currently struggling in the league, as they sit just two points ahead of the relegation zone. However, the 23-year-old Rashica seems to be in a different mood altogether, unlike his team, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists in just 9 games.

His performances have attracted the Villans, who consider the young winger as one a ‘priority target,’ ahead of the upcoming transfer window, the report claims.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa has had a quite difficult time in the Premier League, with the side being pushed to 16th in the table. They have won just 4 of their 15 league games so far, and are just one point away from the relegation zone.

The Villans, who spent quite significantly this season, have had problems up front, with summer signing Wesley yet to hit peak form.

The Brazilian, who arrived from Club Brugge this past summer, has so far managed to score just 4 goals from 15 games, making things a little difficult for coach Smith. Villa have two more strikers in seasoned campaigner Jonathan Kodjia and youngster Keinan Davis.

Kodjia has been widely overlooked by boss Smith, while Davis lacks experience and has missed some matches due to injury. Hence, Villa’s decision to consider the in-form Rashica comes as a no-brainer, as the Villans are in dire need of a consistent finisher.

With an intent to bolster their attacking options, Smith had brought 2 wingers to Villa Park in the summer – Trezeguet and Anwar El Ghazi.

With 3 goals from 13 appearances Trezeguet, who arrived from the Turkish side Kasimpasa has not been the most reliable, with his form taking a dip at times.

El Ghazi, on the other hand, has not been too bad, netting 3 times and providing 4 assists from 13 league matches. However, the Dutchman is currently injured and is recovering from a knee injury.

Villa have Diogo Jota too in their ranks. However, he has fallen down the pecking order and has played only six games until now. With the season almost nearing midway, Smith already has a lot of concerns in his attack.

The versatile Rashica, meanwhile, has been in good form ever since he made his move to Germany from Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem in January 2018.

His reputation as a finisher was out for display, with the youngster scoring 12 goals from 30 games across all competitions last season for the German side. He has continued from where he stopped last season by being a constant threat in front of goal.

However, it remains to be seen if Villa are ready to offer £30million for the young Kosovan, who could be deployed anywhere in the attack.

Verdict

With main man Wesley yet to hit top form and the rest of the attackers being inconsistent, Smith is in need of a prolific goal-scorer, someone who could win him games to move up the table.

Also, Rashica’s flexibility allows Smith to deploy him anywhere up front, according to the needs of the game.
