Why Southampton beating Tottenham to the signature of this Championship star could be a crucial move

Why Southampton must beat Tottenham to land Bradley Dack’s signature

According to the Express, Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a move for Blackburn Rovers star Bradley Dack.

The 24-year-old playmaker, who signed for Blackburn from Gillingham last summer, is excelling in the Championship despite only making the step up from the League One.

Joining Blackburn in the summer of 2017, Bradley Dack has starred for the club and scored 18 goals as Tony Mowbray’s side gained promotion to the Championship last season. Having impressed in England’s second-tier so far this season, Dack has caught the attention of Tottenham Hotspur, who failed to sign a single player in the summer.

With Spurs tracking the progress of Dack, Southampton should join the race for the playmaker. Mark Hughes penned a three-year contract at St. Mary’s earlier this year, but Southampton have endured a poor start to the season with just six points coming from nine fixtures in the Premier League. And the latest point the Saints picked up was in the 0-0 draw vs Bournemouth on Saturday.

Although a 0-0 draw represents a decent result, it could have been even better as Southampton had most of the opportunities in the game.

Truth be told, the Saints have been very passive in the attack this season, with the forwards not linking up well to create enough scoring opportunities. The lack of attacking cohesion is threatening to scupper Southampton’s season.

In Oriol Romeu, Stuart Armstrong, Mario Lemina, Pierre-Emile Hojberg and James Ward-Prowse, Southampton have quite a few central midfielders but they lack a creative presence in their side. Hence, Hughes must prioritise signing a creative midfielder in January and he must have a look at Bradley Dack.

Dack has a brilliant technique which allows him to receive the ball with ease and run with the ball at his feet without much fuss. A good passer of the ball, the 24-year-old has the vision and the creativity to open up defences and create chances for his teammates with accurate through balls.

He is adept at passing and dribbling with both feet. To add to his range of skills, he is a clinical finisher and brings a lot of physicality to the final third as well. Capable of playing out wide, as an attacking midfielder and also as a false 9, the 24-year-old is showing all the qualities required to make it big in the Premier League. He still has his best years ahead of him.

Considering these factors, Southampton must beat Tottenham to sign Dack in January as he could be a difference-maker.
