Why Sessegnon Must Join Tottenham Rather Than Manchester United

Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon has been hitting the headlines for all the right reasons this term but with the summer transfer window fast approaching, there are several rumours about his future. As per a report from Daily Mail, both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on acquiring his services. Mourinho is believed to be willing to pay £40million for the Fulham wonder kid.

With so many clubs interested in him, it does raise several questions about what his ultimate destination will be. As of now, United and Spurs are the front-runners but should Sessegnon snub the Red Devils in favour of Mauricio Pochettino?

Sessegnon is a gem of a player and his strength lies in his versatility. He is the epitome of a modern-day full-back and at the same time, the 17-year-old can also slot in admirably well on the left-wing. As far as the wing position is concerned, United do not really need him but they do need a new left-back.

However, when it comes to his long-term future, Old Trafford might not be the ideal place. For instance, Sessegnon will have to forego chances of playing on the left-wing since Mourinho already has the likes of Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford for that role. Furthermore, United are not really renowned for developing and honing young talent.

Besides Scott McTominay and Jesse Lingard, no other youngster has been allotted as much time at United ever since Mourinho took charge. The Portuguese gaffer was always known to overlook youngsters to provide chances to seasoned players and the same seems to be happening at United.

In contrast, Pochettino’s record of developing youngsters with Tottenham seems a lot more encouraging for somebody like Sessegnon, who is just foraying into the big, bad world of Premier League football.

Players like Axel Tuanzebe, Andreas Pereira and Angel Gomes have hardly seen enough time on the field this season, despite being promising talents. However, Pochettino has taken the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Davinson Sanchez under his wing and have managed to turn them into top-class footballers.

His work with the likes of Heung-min Son and Harry Winks has also been quite endearing and perhaps it will be best for Sessegnon to join him instead of Mourinho.
