Why This Colombian Attacker Rather Than The German Midfielder Is Best Suited For Manchester United’s Future Plans

The daggers are already out at Real Madrid with Zinedine Zidane facing the heat after falling 12 points behind Barcelona in the race for the La Liga. Real Madrid haven’t played any better than what they did under Rafa, arguably, and a lot of players such as James Rodriguez are facing the slack.

The Colombian was a high profile signing after the 2014 FIFA World Cup but after a good first season, he has not been able to replicate his form for Los Galacticos this time around. The funny part is there is talk of a move away from Madrid for James and Manchester United, as usually, are one of the clubs linked with a move for the 24-year-old.

Another player who could be targeted by United is the German midfielder Toni Kroos. The 26-year-old moved from Bayern Munich to Real Madrid in a weird Xabi Alonso swap deal, though the German does have the ability to play for any top side in the world.

Manchester United have the money, so who do they spend it on?

The cry from most Manchester United fans has been about the lack of attacking football, even though Marcus Rashford has done the damage in recent weeks, it certainly cannot hide the inefficiencies in the attacking third of the team.

Manchester United have only scored 37 league goals this time around, the lowest in the top five and certainly is one of the reasons why the fans are not happy. There will be those who argue that the defence is the saving grace having conceded only 26 goals, the second best defence in the league but that is not enough.

The choice between Rodriguez and Kroos would be a fascinating one to make, while James is the player who can give United that cutting edge in attack, Kroos could be the one who fixes the failings they have had in midfield this season.

Kroos has played in 30 games for Madrid this season and is mostly deployed in central midfield where he can make runs or pick out players with his incredible range of passing. He is also extremely good in set-pieces, though Juan Mata has that area covered for Manchester United. The German has also scored once but has eight assists this season for Real.

James though hasn’t had the greatest season for the Madrid side, the Colombian has only played in 20 games out of which five have been as a substitute. Injuries have played their part for the 24-year-old, however he has scored five goals and assisted in six others for the team.

Manchester United need someone who can spark their attack, they do have decent midfielders who can do their job and even Daley Blind can be better if he does play in midfield rather than in defence. James Rodriguez might not steal the show every game for Real Madrid but that is due to the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo in the side.

Rodriguez could well be the answer to Manchester United’s attacking problems, he is young, quick and extremely talented and versatile. His price though would be a gargantuan one but United have paid big for the stars they need, all they would be hoping for is this turns out to be a Wayne Rooney kind of signing and not an Angel Di Maria one, though Louis van Gaal might not be the manager at the helm next season.
