A smart investment – Tottenham would strike gold by signing this 9-goal Englishman from PL rivals

Why Tottenham Hotspur should sign Harvey Barnes

Tottenham finally looked convincing for a full 90 minutes in their drubbing of Crystal Palace on the weekend after smashing 4 goals past them in the first half and holding onto that lead. Spurs now go to Greece to face their Champions Olympiacos in midweek.

Mauricio Pochettino was a figure of frustration during the early weeks with a lot of uncertainty about his side due to the transfer window but with that out of the way, he can go back to concentrating on the football.

Mauricio Pochettino would’ve liked more signings to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool after coming so close to achieving and it looks like he’s got his eye on one now.

A report from the Daily Express has linked Spurs with a move for Leicester City’s young English winger, Harvey Barnes.

Spurs have already signed one young English winger in Jack Clarke, who has been sent back on loan to Leeds to continue his development under Marcelo Bielsa. Barnes also made his name in the championship with West Bromwich Albion last season during the first half of the season.

He got 9 goals and 7 assists in 26 championship appearances and Leicester decided to get him back for the second half of the season after impressing for the Baggies.

Barnes is very two-footed, can create and score goals as his stats suggest and is versatile enough to play on either wing.

He’s also very quick and has the work-rate to go up and down the flank when required, which is something that Pochettino needs.

In many ways, his attributes aren’t that dissimilar to those of Son with his pace and his ability to hit a goal with either foot.

Spurs don’t currently have anyone who can play regularly on that right inside-forward position as Pochettino has had to use Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela at times, who are far more suited to a central position.

Brendan Rodgers has also not awarded Barnes with many minutes but he came up with a cracking goal that won him the goal of the month award when he got his chances and Barnes will be desperate to continue his development as he’s 21 and should be getting more minutes.

Daniel Levy needs to support this move and get Barnes from the King Power.
