Tottenham landing this 22-year-old Serie A wall would sort out their defence for the next decade – Poch must get him

Tottenham opinion: Spurs want Joachim Andersen – a good choice?

Italian news outlet Football Italia has reported that Tottenham have re-entered the race for Sampdoria star Joachim Andersen.

The young centre-back has been in fine form A this season, and has attracted a lot of interest including Inter Milan (Football Italia) and Manchester United (Manchester Evening News).

However, it seems like Tottenham are leading the race, having heavily scouted the 22-year-old.

Currently contracted to Sampdoria, the youngster only arrived in the summer of 2017 and has done relatively well, rising to prominence towards the end of last season.

However, it is this season that the young centre-back has really shown what he is really made of, after a tough start. Injuries and various other issues saw Andersen walk into the team and he hasn’t looked back.

This season, he is one of only five players to play 30 or more games, with the Dane missing just one game.

That was due to the accumulation of far too many yellow cards but barring that, Andersen has missed no game in the Serie A. He’s proven to be a rock at the back, someone who is cool and comfortable on the ball.

His 6’4” frame gives him an advantage when it comes to aerial duels and he is also surprisingly agile given his height. However, Andersen’s speed is a drawback, as he has often struggled with faster strikers. Yet, he’s made up for his lack of speed with a great sense of positioning and defensive nuance.

For Tottenham, what really makes Joachim Andersen a great addition to their side is the fact that they need young and confident blood in their side. Both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are on the wrong side of thirty, with the former heavily linked with a move away (Daily Mail).

That could prove problematic next season, given the fact that Tottenham are chasing a potential league title. Mauricio Pochettino has a team that can help him do well but his back-line isn’t the best in the world.

It has hurt Tottenham at times, and maybe the injection of some like Joachim Andersen can help change that.

Conclusion

Tottenham need a few additions next season to just push them over the top, with their lack of spending in the last two windows clearly affecting them.

A new centre-back should be their top priority, and someone like Joachim Andersen would be the perfect addition. At the age of 22, the Dane represents a long-term investment and one that is worth the effort.
