Tottenham beating Arsenal to land this world-class 22-year-old is the step towards PL glory next season – agreed?

Tottenham Opinion: Spurs have to win the race for Donny Van de Beek

Tottenham needs reinforcements, especially if the North London side ever wants to even have a chance at a Premier League title. They need to make sure that their team not only has the proper depth but at the same time, effective replacements for players like Christian Eriksen and even Harry Kane.

The latter has been out injured a lot this season and things could have gotten a lot worse had Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min not stepped up. Both the forwards found a rich vein of form just in time, proving to be calming influences in a team lacking a proper front-man.

With the Champions League final now done, Mauricio Pochettino has to start thinking ahead and make sure that he adds the right players before the summer is over. They cannot go two transfer windows without adding new players once again.

At the moment, Pochettino has a brilliant core group but that’s all he has at his disposal. Instead, he needs to add players around that group to help improve the team’s chances and make them more like either Manchester City or Liverpool.

To do that, the first step has to be adding a new midfielder. There are a treasure trove of midfield generals all over the world but one man who does fit the bill perfectly is Donny Van de Beek. English News outlet Football.London has linked Tottenham and Arsenal with a move but it’s Tottenham who need him more.

The 22-year-old has had a rather incredible season with Ajax and was amongst their best players. A box-to-box midfielder, Van de Beek covered a lot of ground this season before being switched over to a number 10 role.

Despite that not being his preferred position, van de Beek has done well with his creative talent and work ethic, playing a big part. His creative dominance makes him a world-class option for Tottenham, and at the same time, Donny van de Beek’s greatest weakness is his defensive struggle.

The 22-year-old is at best an enthusiastic defender and he does run himself to the ground. But he only averages 1.7 tackles per game, which isn’t a good defensive figure. However, it showcases what Van de Beek can do for Tottenham.

His defensive frailties shouldn’t be too much of an issue as Spurs have other players to do that for them.

Conclusion

Donny Van de Beek is someone who can help Tottenham replace the ghost of Mousa Dembele. The Belgian’s presence in the Tottenham team was instrumental to their success and Van de Beek has done the same for Ajax.

It’s why the move is perfect for Tottenham as it allows them to add yet another world-class star to their stables.
