Tottenham signing this promising 19-year-old Serie A starlet would solve a key issue for Pochettino

Tottenham opinion: Should Spurs consider a move for Nicolo Zaniolo?

English news outlet Daily Star and the Metro has reported that Tottenham are the latest side to enter the race for Serie A star Nicolo Zaniolo. The young midfielder has been in great form this season and is one of the few AS Roma players who have done well.

So far this season, the 19-year-old has made 33 appearances for the club, producing 8 goals. However, given the fact that a large number of his appearances have come off the bench, the fact that Zaniolo has even scored a goal is a massive surprise.

But the 19-year-old has not only scored but singlehandedly kept AS Roma in their last of 16 clash against Porto. He scored two goals to help the Stadio Olimpico side win the first leg before they collapsed in the second leg.

Furthermore, the arrival of Claudio Ranieri as a caretaker manager after Eusebio Di Francesco was sacked changed the young midfielder. Under the former Fulham and Leicester City boss, the 19-year-old has struggled to make too much impact, with Ranieri’s style of play affecting that.

Despite that, a move to Tottenham would still be the best move. A brilliant dribbler, the 19-year-old is surprisingly fast for a 6’2” midfielder and uses his deceptive pace very well. His vision and strength have made him deadly in and around the box, with Zaniolo using the hole to great effect.

It’s where he does his best work, which is a combination between both Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen. However, Zaniolo’s more similar to Alli than Eriksen, as he combines great attacking instincts with enthusiastic defensive work time after time.

This is despite being an attacking midfielder whose style of play means that he does not have to defend. And yet, Zaniolo has averaged 1.3 tackles a game, which shows his ability and work ethic.

For Tottenham, that will play a big part and a move would do them a lot of good.
