Tottenham would bag a massive coup by raiding London rivals to sign this 21-year-old defensive ace

Tottenham Opinion: Why Tottenham should make a move for Aaron Wan Bissaka

The Daily Mail has reported that Tottenham are all set to make a move for Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It further adds that both Serge Aurier and Kieran Trippier will be sold in the summer, as manager Mauricio Pochettino is planning towards the future.

The 21-year-old Eagles star has been a revelation this season, making the right-back spot his own. So far this season, Wan-Bissaka has made 27 appearances in the Premier League, missing just three games down to injuries.

Barring that, the Englishman has been brilliant, showing his strengths over the last six months or so. Easily better than either Trippier or Aurier, the 21-year-old will be a definite upgrade for Tottenham.

At the moment, despite Trippier’s incredible performances at the World Cup, the Englishman has struggled over the last six months.

He has made more than his share of high-profile mistakes, including against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool. That has cost the North London side a chance at a league title.

An upgrade any way one looks at it, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has the perfect combination of athleticism and physicality. That allows him to bomb up and down the flanks, without breaking a sweat which he has showcased this season. Not only that, his defensive nuance is downright exceptional for a right-back his age, which has improved under Roy Hodgson.

That’s what Tottenham need more than anything and more importantly, it is something Kieran Trippier has failed to do. The 28-year-old is great offensively but has struggled defensively this season, which has affected the club.

To make things even worse, Serge Aurier has failed to adapt to the team since his move from PSG in 2017 (BBC). He has made just 41 appearances since his move. It includes just 14 this season after the French right-back struggled to make an impact last season.

That is why manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to play Trippier instead. But that hasn’t worked out either and it’s exactly why Tottenham need to make a move.

Conclusion

Tottenham have the core to help them win a league title in the near future. But with a few new additions, the club can do that. Adding someone as talented as Aaron Wan-Bissaka will help them in the near future and at the age of 21, the Crystal Palace star is a long-term option.
