Why Tottenham’s front-three could be on par with Liverpool if they secure this £40m deal

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund young star Christian Pulisic in the summer transfer window. It is reported that Spurs are ready to meet Dortmund’s asking price of £40m for Pulisic, who has also attracted interest from other Premier League clubs.

Spurs finished third in the league this season and even managed to earn Champions League qualification. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men failed to win any trophy.

After finishing runners-up to Chelsea last term, Spurs were expected to compete for the title but a 3rd-place finish without any silverware reflects that no improvement was made during this campaign.

Pochettino needs to sign top-quality players in the summer transfer window to challenge the best teams in Europe but given Tottenham’s spending strength and wage structure, Pochettino has failed to compete with the best teams in the Premier League, let alone Europe. The Argentine has had to rely on young players and in every way, he has thrived.

That’s why signing Pulisic from Dortmund would be so productive and valuable for Spurs. But they could face stiff competition from other top clubs, especially Liverpool, whose manager Jurgen Klopp is a long-time admirer of the American and gave the player his first-team debut at Dortmund.

Pulisic is widely regarded as one of the best young attackers in the world. However, this season has been full of ups and downs for the 19-year-old.

The United States of America failed to qualify for the World Cup and Dortmund’s instability hurt Pulisic’s growth significantly this season. Much of the burden was placed on the young shoulders of Pulisic and as a 19-year-old, he failed to live up to the expectations.

Regardless of a disappointing campaign, Pulisic’s potential is unquestionable. He is hugely talented and would blossom under the guidance of Pochettino.

In the recently concluded Bundesliga campaign, Pulisic started 27 times, contributing 4 goals and 6 assists. The statistics, by no means, tell the entire story as failure to qualify for the World Cup affected the 19-year-old, both physically and mentally.

Pulisic deserves to be reprieved for an inconsistent campaign in the Bundesliga. Pochettino needs to take special notice of the talent and get his hands on him this summer. Pulisic’s versatility would no doubt be useful to Tottenham as the young American can play out wide or through the centre.

The USA international is a worker, a team man who defends and also attacks for his side. With speed, agility and finishing, he is one of the brightest stars in Europe. Pulisic has everything under his belt to go on to become a superstar in the near future.

Pulisic’s addition would make Spurs’ attack a rollicking one. The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min already pose a formidable attacking line-up.

The signing of Pulisic would make Spurs more exciting, potent and put on them on par with Liverpool’s rip-roaring attack.
