Watford offloading their £13m key star would be nothing but an act of foolishness and Gracia must avoid it

Watford opinion: Hornets would be foolish to sell Roberto Pereyra

According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web, Watford’s Roberto Pereyra has been attracting interest from the Serie A, with Torino looking at a summer move for the Argentine.

The Turin-based club failed in their attempts to acquire the services of the Argentine in January but the report reveals that they are still in the hunt to sign the former Juventus man.

The report also reveals that Pereyra is a huge admirer of Torino boss Walter Mazzarri, the same manager who brought him to Watford in 2016 from Juventus for £13m. Mazzarri is now the manager of Juventus’ local rivals and is keen to bring the Argentine back to Turin.

Since signing for the Hornets three years ago, Pereyra has been an integral part of the squad, having made 76 appearances for the club, scoring and assisting a combined 22 in all competitions.

His numbers have been pretty decent for a club who have had an average couple of seasons but his role this season has helped them fight for a place in the top 7.

In his 28 starts so far this season, Pereyra has mainly featured on the left wing and has directly contributed to 8 goals in the Premier League so far. His creativity has helped Javi Gracia’s side massively despite him not playing in his natural position.

Pereyra hasn’t looked out of place out wide and has had a decent impact from the left flank so far.

His partnership with Jose Holebas has been very impressive and his ability to both cut inside or go to the by-line and cross has helped Watford massively.

Gracia can also play Pereyra in his natural number 10 position where he is most dangerous and could create a ton of chances and also have pops at goal from distance when he has the chance.

The Argentine, who is still 28 years old, has a lot to offer for the Hornets and it is extremely important for them to keep hold of their star man beyond the summer.

Pereyra will still have two years left on his current deal at Vicarage Road but Watford should be proactive and offer him a new deal to keep his value intact.

Conclusion

Watford would be making a humungous mistake if they cash in on Roberto Pereyra and will lose their main source of creativity in the squad. His presence at the club will be incredibly hard to replace and the Hornets should fend off Torino and other potential suitors in the summer.
