Why West Brom signing this 32-year-old veteran midfielder in January would boost their promotion hopes

Why West Bromwich Albion should definitely sign Charlie Adam

Despite succumbing grabbing just one point in the last three games, West Bromwich Albion have made an inspirational start to the season under Darren Moore. The Baggies are currently placed 5th on the table, just 4 points behind league leaders, Sheffield United.

They are definitely one of the early favourites to get promoted at the end of the season. The Baggies have also scored a whopping 33 goals in the league, thanks to the superb performances of Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle.

But one area the Baggies have lacked this season is the central midfield. Darren Moore has opted to play Chris Brunt in the middle of the park and the Northern Irishman has done a miserable job so far. During his time at the Hawthorns, Brunt was always used as a left winger and is known for his devilish deliveries into the box.

Hence, West Bromwich Albion can aim to bring in Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam in January. The former Liverpool man is currently into the final year of his contract and has barely stepped onto the pitch for the Potters this season.

He has made just 2 substitute appearances, accumulating a total of 27 minutes so far. According to Sky Sports, Stoke are also willing to sell the veteran midfielder in a cut-price deal given that he is not a part of Gary Rowett’s plan at the moment. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Moore should definitely try and make a move for the Stoke City midfielder given his experience. Adam is an able distributor of the ball in the middle of the park and also possesses a wide range of passing.

He will be able to dictate the play in the midfield for the Baggies while also ensuring security on the ball. Adam is capable of picking up the ball deep in his own half to loft it long for the attackers to run in behind.

The 32-year-old is also excellent in dead-ball situations, which means Darren Moore will have another set-piece specialist in his ranks. He is also capable of chipping in with the odd goal.

Adam is definitely capable of flourishing in Moore’s 3-4-1-2 formation that should see him partner with Jake Livermore. This will allow Brunt to return to the wing and thrive in his natural position.

Darren Moore should definitely make the move for the former Liverpool midfielder when the window opens in January. The Baggies definitely need a central midfielder in order to make a charge for promotion and Adam would be an ideal short-term option.
