A resurgent Jay Rodriguez could steer West Bromwich Albion back to the Premier League

West Bromwich Albion are currently three places below the playoff zone but have looked impressive in patches this season. Darren Moore’s men have so far picked up 10 points in the opening 6 games of the season.

One of the Baggies’ standout performers so far has been striker Jay Rodriguez. The former Southampton striker was a shadow of his old self over the last two years but has come to the fold this season.

Rodriguez has already picked up 4 goals in 6 appearances this season. He is one of the Baggies’ main threats going forward and has been clinical inside the six-yard box so far. What makes him even more devastating is his partnership up front with former Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle, who has also picked up 3 goals this season.

Jay Rodriguez has looked confident and cohesive in possession. His link-up play with Dwight Gayle and the other teammates has been fruitful for the Baggies going forward. The 29-year-old looks determined to make amends after a string of mediocre seasons with the Baggies.

The former Southampton striker is keeping goalkeepers on their heels. He has so far averaged a total of 2.5 shots per game and has been a constant menace for defenders. Rodriguez also provides Darren Moore with a number of options up front, thanks to his versatility.

The 29-year-old is not only capable of playing as a striker, but he can also slot into a central attacking midfield role just behind the forward. Rodriguez is also comfortable playing as a wide forward on either wing.

Though he has only averaged a pass success rate of 75.2% this season, Rodriguez is excellent in his build-up play. He is comfortable on the play and knows when to dispatch his teammates. The former Burnley striker’s creative ability on the ball makes him one of the best versatile options in the squad.

West Brom are yet to hit full stride under Moore this season but if the Baggies are to return to the Premier League, Jay Rodriguez is definitely the man to steer them to it. He has so far been in exceptional form and must continue in a similar manner to reignite his career as a striker.
