Why West Ham must do everything in January to land this 25-year-old two-footed German

Why Amin Younes would be the perfect January business for West Ham

A product of Borussia Monchengladbach’s youth system, Amin Younes was tipped by many to become one of the future stars of German football. He did make it to the national team but the path followed by him was not the easiest.

Younes was promoted to the reserve team in 2011 and made his Bundesliga debut at the end of the 2011/12 season. However, he found it difficult to get regular minutes and failed to prove his worth at his boyhood club in the limited game time that he was given.

He was loaned out to Bundesliga 2 club Kaiserslautern for the 2014/15 season but Younes failed to make his mark in the second-tier as well. Desperate to get more regular minutes at the top level and continue his development in the right direction, he took a brave step that changed his career.

Younes made his move to Ajax in 2015 and he realised his potential in his debut season in the Eredivisie, accumulating 8 goals and 5 assists in the 2015/16 season. He carried on his good work and went on to play a key role in Ajax’s march to the finals of the 2016/17 Europa League.

As a result of his fine displays in the Europa League, he was called up by Joachim Low to the national team for the 2017 Confederations Cup. Younes scored twice in 5 appearances and helped Germany get their hands on the coveted trophy. The creative ace made his move to Napoli in the summer of 2018.

Essentially a left-winger by trade, Younes has also been used on the right and through the middle in a No.10 role. Known for his ambipedal nature, the 25-year-old’s main attributes are his passing, vision and ability to contribute to the build-up play.

He is a technically gifted creative midfielder who not only has the ability to create chances with his dribbling but he is also adept at holding on to the ball to bring others into play.

Amin Younes would be an ideal signing for West Ham in January. The Hammers have won five out of their last six games in the Premier League and currently sit 9th in the standings, which is quite good given that they had a calamitous start to the season.

Manuel Pellegrini has managed to get things back on track amidst an injury crisis, with Felipe Anderson leading West Jan’s resurgence in the Premier League. The Hammers have some quality creative players in Andriy Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere but they are unlikely to play a substantial role this season due to injuries.

Someone like Amin Younes can bring a lot of creativity to West Ham’s attack and he can take the team to greater heights by working in tandem with Felipe Anderson. That said, the Hammers should start pursuing an interest in the German ahead this January.
