West Ham beating Wolves to sign £36m star would turn around their fortunes instantly

Why West Ham should plot a January swoop for AC Milan star Suso

According to a report from Calciomercato (h/t The Daily Mail), AC Milan star Suso has drawn interest from Premier League clubs West Ham and Wolves.

He did enjoy a strong season with AC Milan last year, scoring eight goals and assisting 10 times. However, Suso has managed just one goal and an assist in 11 Serie A games this season and was widely criticised following a poor display in Stefano Pioli’s first game in charge of AC Milan against Lecce.

The report adds the Spain international may want to move in January to revive his career elsewhere. (h/t The Daily Mail) That being said, West Ham must do everything possible to beat Wolves for Suso’s signature in January.

West Ham have not won in seven games and were battered 3-0 by Burnley before heading into the international break. The manner of West Ham’s fall and the back-to-back defeats against Newcastle and Burnley has left Manuel Pellegrini under immense pressure.

The Hammers shipped out 11 players in the summer and the lack of investment has left Pellegrini short on numbers and quality in several key areas.

So far, they have lacked invention and sharpness in the final third of the pitch. It has been difficult for Pellegrini’s side to carve open teams that have set up in low blocks. To put things into perspective, West Ham must look to bring in someone who can sort out those issues. Suso would be an ideal addition.

Suso scored 8 times and added 8 assists in a solid 2018-19 season and even though he hasn’t had a great time in Milan colours this time around, the ability is certainly there for the 25-year-old.

The Spaniard spent time in England with Liverpool from 2012-2015. He struggled to establish himself at Anfield but having matured into an excellent footballer at Milan, Suso seems ready to handle the Premier League this time around.

The Cadiz-born star will improve West Ham going forward and his ability to create chances could also help Sebastien Haller, who has faded after a bright start to his Hammers career. Haller has been starved of service so far this season and someone like Suso could unlock his potential.

Plus, the Spaniard could potentially forge an excellent understanding with the likes of Haller, Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini in the West Ham attack.

Verdict

Suso might be determined to prove his worth in England after an ill-fated spell with Liverpool. And at £36m, he would be a bargain addition to Pellegrini’s squad.
