West Ham re-signing Pellegrini’s former protege for £15m would be nothing but a robbery

West Ham United opinion: Why West Ham should sign Edin Dzeko

According to Calciomercato, West Ham are leading the race to sign AS Roma forward Edin Dzeko in the summer. The former Manchester City forward is keen to return to the Premier League and the Hammers are above Inter Milan in the race to sign the Bosnian.

Dzeko’s current contract with the Serie A outfit expires in 2020 and Roma will look to sell him on in the summer to avoid losing him for free next season.

The report reveals that the I Giallorossi will look to get at least £15million for the Bosnian in the summer and with proven Premier League experience, he would be worth the investment.

West Ham did well to extend Marko Arnautovic’s contract last month. Despite committing his future, the Austrian might still leave the Olympic stadium in the summer and Manuel Pellegrini would need a replacement for him.

Dzeko has previously played under Pellegrini during their time at Manchester City and the duo knows each other very well. Under the Chilean, Dzeko scored 32 goals and provided 20 assists in just 79 games.

A tall, strong and a clinic finisher, Dzeko would be a perfect replacement for Arnautovic in the summer. Dzeko, in some ways, would be a better asset to the team than the Austrian and would give West Ham a massive boost in achieving their ambitions of European football.

The Bosnian is a massively experienced campaigner, having played over 540 games in his career. The Bosnian has also played 130 games in the Premier League and won’t be fazed by the league’s physical aspect.

Dzeko would thrive in this West Ham team especially when playing in front of the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini. Dzeko’s movement as a number 9 is up there with the best in the business and his intelligence on and off the ball is a gift.

The Bosnian uses his 6ft 4in frame to fantastic effect and he combines that with his brilliant heading to cause serious damage to the opposition. His hold-up play is fantastic and would benefit West Ham’s quick runners around him.

Conclusion

West Ham would have to replace Marko Arnautovic in the summer if he decides to leave the club and Edin Dzeko would be a dream signing. His relationship and previous form under Manuel Pellegrini is phenomenal and West Ham will certainly benefit from his attacking prowess.

Dzeko will still be a fantastic addition to the team even if West Ham keep hold of Arnautovic and the duo would form a terrific partnership up top and the Hammers should make a move for him in the summer.
