Why Wolves’ Ruben Neves Would Be A Wonderful Signing For Liverpool

As per a report from The Sun, Liverpool are interested in a sensational summer swoop to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves. The Portuguese star arrived at the Molineux last summer with a lot riding on his shoulders and it is safe to say that he has lived up to his billing.

Wolves have enjoyed a magnificent campaign this time but their challenges will intensify ten-fold in the Premier League. Neves has played a key role in all of Wolves’ success this season and prying him away might prove to be tough for the Anfield outfit.

However, if they manage to pull off a deal for him, there is no doubt that Neves could go on to become a highly valuable player for the Merseysiders. He seems to have a penchant for long-range goals, which is illustrated by the fact that he has smashed 6 goals this season – all from outside the box. His playmaking skills are top-notch as well.

A defence-oriented midfielder by trade, Neves has a lot of qualities that Liverpool have lacked from their midfielders this season. Emre Can’s performances have been rather hit-and-miss whereas Jordan Henderson has been in and out of injuries throughout the ongoing campaign.

Most of Liverpool’s success can be chalked down to their attack but going forward, the club will need adequate protection in the middle of the park, particularly to shield the backline.

On that front, a move for Neves could prove to be hugely beneficial for Liverpool. Although the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have been widely successful, the fact is that they cannot hope to get to the next level by relying solely on their attackers.

Hence, to truly elevate their game and improve their chances of a title challenge next season, perhaps it would be wise for Liverpool to raid the newly-promoted outfit and sign Neves.

At 21 years of age, Neves has a long way to go and yet he boasts of ample experience. A player like him could prove to be the missing link for Liverpool.

However, Neves has essayed a crucial role for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men this season and Wolves will hesitate to sell him.
