‘Will they give a golden helmet instead of a golden boot?’ – Chelsea Fans React To Morata’s Goals+Match Report

Match Report: Leicester City 1-2 Chelsea

After starting their season with a shock defeat at the hands of Burnley on the opening day, Chelsea seem to have brought their season back on track, as they have now accumulated 9 points in the 3 league games after that, including the 2-1 victory over Leicester City today.

Leicester started the game with more intent and confidence at King Power Stadium. Jamie Vardy, particularly, looked menacing up front and often troubled Chelsea custodian Thibaut Courtois with his close downs. The London heavyweights, however, soon gathered some momentum and found the rhythm to run the show from their glaring midfield.

Cesc Fabregas, the veteran Spaniard, created a glorious opportunity for his countryman Alvaro Morata who should have done a lot better to test Kasper Schmeichel in the Foxes’ goal. N’Golo Kante, the former Leicester City midfielder kept on winning possession in the middle of the park and created opportunities for his attackers. He, however, was dispossessed dangerously on the edge of the Leicester box that allowed the hosts to counter via Riyad Mahrez. The move proved to be a futile effort as Islam Slimani’s strike was well denied by Courtois.

Chelsea hit back spectacularly, seconds later, as Alvaro Morata found the back of the net with a sublime header from a pinpoint delivery to the back post by Cesar Azpilicueta, scoring his third goal of the campaign. Chelsea led 1-0 at half-time.

Craig Shakespeare, the Leicester boss, made a couple of changes at half-time. But his tactics went in vain as the Premier League champions hit again, five minutes into the second half. Kante scored against his former employers with a low strike from distance that traveled through the legs of Foxes defender Harry Maguire that ended up into the back of the net.

Chelsea were controlling the game with ease but Leicester earned a lifeline against the run of play when Courtois fouled Jamie Vardy inside the box. The Englishman made no mistake to convert the spot-kick. The hosts made an all-out attempt to find an equaliser by bringing in forward Kelechi Iheanacho. Leicester almost snatched a point in the closing seconds of the second half stoppage time but Jamie Vardy could not make contact with his head from Andy King’s cross.

The game thus ended 2-1 in favour of the visitors and the Blues are now enjoying a three-game winning streak following their Burnley defeat.
