With the price rising from £13m to £33.6m, Chelsea should act quickly to land this English hotshot in January

Why Chelsea must sign Callum Wilson from Bournemouth

According to a report in Football.London, Chelsea have been linked with Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson and would need to pay around £33m to get the Englishman. The 26-year-old has been in good form this season and his stock has risen two folds in the last three to four months.

The report says that Wilson’s value has taken a jump from £13m to £33.6m in the space of the early months of this season. Hence, the Blues have to meet the demands of the rising fee if they are to get the striker.

Here’s why Maurizio Sarri’s men have no choice but to buy the Cherries’ star man in the January transfer window:

Lack of goals from current strikers

Chelsea have made a great start to their Premier League campaign and life under Sarri. After beating champions Manchester City last weekend, the belief is there at Stamford Bridge that the Blues can spring a surprise and take part in the title race this year.

However, they have been massively let down by the performance of the two strikers in the squad. Both Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata have struggled to score goals on a consistent basis, leaving others, especially Eden Hazard, with a lot of things to do.

The struggle of his number nines was the reason why Sarri went with a false nine (Hazard) against the Cityzens. Looking at the stats, Giroud has scored one league goal in 13 league appearances, while Morata has netted five in 14.

The majority of the blame has to stick with the latter, because he was the one who arrived from Real Madrid for a massive fee last summer.

Hence, if Chelsea are to stay in the race, they cannot rely on Hazard to deliver the goods at all times. So signing a new striker, who can actually finish off the chances created would be refreshing. Wilson has Premier League experience in abundance and he has shown this season that he can score goals regularly.

The 26-year-old has netted 8 goals and supplied 5 assists in 15 appearances, which averages a contribution of one goal per game.

The Englishman works hard off the ball as well, pressing from the front to not allow the opposition centre-backs to pass the ball around easily. All in all, Wilson is a complete package who possesses the potential to shine at Stamford Bridge.
