Wolves completing another raid on the Serie A to seal this £26m deal would be a masterstroke by Nuno Santo

Why Wolves should go all out to sign AC Milan’s Franck Kessie

According to a report in the Birmingham mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for AC Milan’s Franck Kessie. Wolves have bid £26m, which isn’t too high considering the inflated market today.

Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves were played in nearly every game alongside one another and it’ll be difficult for Moutinho to continue performing at such a high level given his age, and it’s important that Wolves look to add some depth alongside the Portuguese international or at the very least, they should get someone to replace them in certain games.

Last season, they had a fairly tightly knit squad which rotated the least amongst all the Premier League sides. However, that will simply not do this season if they are to make any progress, especially with far more games coming their way due to the Europa League commitments.

So far, they’ve signed Jesus Vallejo of Real Madrid on loan, who is a fantastic talent. He has admirable leadership qualities and is a great defender in the channels.

They’ve also wrapped up a deal for Patrick Cutrone of AC Milan to add to their attacking options after getting rid of Ivan Cavaleiro and sending Douglas Costa on loan to Leeds United.

Wolves have been very smart in the transfer market in the last two seasons and Kessie would be another very smart signing if they go through with the deal. He’s tenacious, great in transition and is a decent dribbler, who will allow for some ball progression.

Wolves have a difficult set of fixtures to start the season with but that shouldn’t be too much of a hindrance as one of the reasons for their 7th-place finish was the fact that they got so many points off the big-six.

There’s no guarantee that they’ll do the same in the upcoming season but with some depth in the squad and a quality player like Kessie, they can assure themselves of another respectable finish or maybe even more. Kessie will also find it easy to settle down at Wolves, with Cutrone already at the club.

Nuno Santo has done a fantastic job since taking over at the club and will believe that sky is the limit after their showings last season. There’s a chance to maybe even upset one of the big-6.
