Wood and Barnes to lead the line – Strongest 4-4-2 Burnley XI to take on Watford

Predicted Burnley line-up to face Watford in the Premier League

A new season, but same old Burnley. The Clarets held tight to come away with a 0-0 draw away to Southampton last weekend. But Sean Dyche will be thrilled after beating Istanbul Basaksehir 1-0 to make their way into the final playoff game against Olympiakos.

The Clarets looked well-drilled and solid in defence, with a resurgent Joe Hart now keeping three clean sheets in a row. Sean Dyche will be aiming for another strong performance from his team when Watford visit Turf Moor on Sunday. The Hornets kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion, courtesy of a brilliant brace from Roberto Pereyra.

Team News

Apart from Nick Pope and Steven Defour, Sean Dyche has a fully fit squad to pick from. Ben Gibson made his debut for the club against Istanbul Basaksehir and looked at ease.

Though Tom Heaton is fit, Joe Hart should continue in goal after keeping three clean sheets on the trot.

Probable Burnley XI

Manager: Sean Dyche

Formation: 4-4-2

Joe Hart (GK)

Hart seems determined to ignite a late spark in his career and the former Manchester City goalkeeper has been brilliant for the Clarets. He should start in order to maintain the momentum.

Matthew Lowton (RB)

Lowton was rested for the mid-week Europa League game but should return for the clash against the Hornets.

James Tarkowski (CB)

The centre-back was rested as well and will return to the squad for this game. He is an integral part of the backline.

Ben Mee (CB)

There’s no denying Ben Mee is their leader and model at the back. He’s Burnley’s most diligent and committed defender.

Ben Mee

Stephen Ward (LB)

Ward’s raids down the left flank provide the likes of Wood and Vokes with ample supply. He should be deployed in his usual role again.

Aaron Lennon (RM)

Lennon was taken off early in the second half and should make his way back into the team against the Hornets.

Ashley Westwood (RCM)

Westwood is more than capable of starting two games in the space of three days. His distribution and supply are vital in the middle of the park.

Jack Cork (LCM)

After coming on as a substitute, Cork scored the winning goal to send Burnley fans into raptures. He should be ready to start this game as well.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (LM)

The Icelandic international is Burnley’s main source of supply going forward. He was rested for the Europa League playoff and will make his return.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson

Ashley Barnes (ST)

Barnes was unfortunate not to come away with a goal in mid-week and looked impressive going forward. He should start against the Hornets.

Chris Wood (ST)

There’s no denying the kind of threat Chris Wood brings to the team. He didn’t play against Istanbul Basaksehir and should start against Watford.
