Yoshida Retains His Place: Strongest Southampton Playing XI To Face Tottenham

Southampton Vs Tottenham Predicted Starting Line-Ups

Southampton travel to the North part of London to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at White Hart Lane. Mauricio Pochettino’s men hammered Millwall 6-0 in their FA Cup game and have been in great form of late. However, their elimination from the Europa League was a blow but they are still minutely considered title contenders in the Premier League.

Claude Puel’s men are placed 10th and missed out on the EFL Cup as they lost 3-2 to Manchester United at Wembley. However, they still have two games in hand and can cause a few upsets with determined performances, just like last week where they were involved in a thrilling game against Watford, which they won 4-3.

Team News:

Southampton were dealt a big blow when centre-back Virgil Van Dijk was ruled out for the entire season. It would be difficult without the star defender in the team, but they have an able backup in Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Fraser Forster (GK)

Has been really good for the Saints, producing good saves at crucial moments. He has improved a lot.

Cedric Soares (RB)

The right back has been solid throughout the season and is also very good at attacking down the right-hand side.

Maya Yoshida (CB)

Has managed to do well in the absence of Van Dijk but can do better. Though he is a tad slower than natural attacking players, his tackling is usually spot-on.

Jack Stephens (CB)

Slotted in for Fonte, he has put on a really good show. He’s been determined and solid in Southampton’s backline but has been a bit rash occasionally.

Ryan Bertrand (LB)

Very strong at defending tight and pushing forward with overlapping runs. His wonderful crossing ability also makes him one of the most dangerous full-backs in the league.

Oriol Romeu (CM)

Sitting deep in midfield and controlling the tempo of the game is one of his many traits. He is not scared to push forward with the ball and provides defensive solidarity for the back four.

Steven Davis (CM)

The second midfielder who goes about his work quietly and breaks out attacking threats from the opponents. Comfortable on the ball as well.

James Ward-Prowse (RW)

The energetic man in midfield who generally puts the opposition under pressure with his high intensity and pressing. He’s also a good passer of the ball.

Dusan Tadic (CAM)

Dusan Tadic has been a fine player for them ever since he joined the club. He makes space for his team-mates and is strong in possession and is capable of producing some lovely moments to change any game.

Nathan Redmond (RW)

Since joining Southampton, he has been electric and always a threat. Two goals in his last game added to his already growing confidence.

Gabbiadini (ST)

What a signing he has been for Southampton. He has scored in all his appearances for the Saints so far and will look to continue doing so when he leads the line against Tottenham.
